ADD/ADHD:
The Next Evolution of Humans
Here's
my belief about ADD/ADHD: It's not a disease. It's not a weakness.
It's not a syndrome. People
who have been "diagnosed" with ADD/ADHD or who believe
that they have the symptoms are NOT sick, broken, or misfits.
They
are the next evolution of humans.
The
so-called symptoms are strengths that we all will need - if not
now, then very shortly. That which the medical and pharmaceutical
industries define as signs of disease are in reality abilities that
we all will need in our no-so-distant future. Our world is moving
faster and there is more that requires our attention. As an example,
imagine the commute of a worker 100 years ago. They rode their horse
through beautiful countryside or perhaps rode in a wagon or carriage
pulled by animals. The pace was leisurely and they had only nature
to observe during their ride. Nowadays, commuters hurl themselves
down cemented lanes at outrageous rates of speed surrounded by others
like them while they are inundated with information from their radio,
traffic signs, and billboards, as they chat on their cell phone.
The
ability to multitask in today's world is not only an asset, it's
mandatory. As our world continues to speed up, more and more information
will be racing toward us and only those who are able to deal with
it will survive.
One
of the major "symptoms" of ADD is the ability to spread
one's awareness and consciousness to many things at once. Doctors
and drug companies promote the propaganda that unless one can focus
for extended periods of time on one thing, there is something wrong
with that person. In the Industrial Age this was a benefit, since
many people worked for hours in factories doing one thing all day.
In
the frantic, hectic, and kaleidoscopic world of today, a person
who is a linear thinker will be left behind in the dust of those
who are able to juggle many different activities and thought processes
at once.
The
new human is able to use their brain in a non-linear way in order
to easily and naturally grab seemingly unconnected bits of information
and form new theories and create in ways that are incomprehensible
to linear thinkers. As
little as one generation ago it would not have been possible by
the populace to conceive of the internet, let alone create it. The
internet is a direct reflection of the evolving human brain and
is the perfect vehicle for those who are mistakenly told they have
a "disorder" because they don't think in a linear manner.
The
disorder is not the people. It's the system that doesn't allow for
change.
If
you think you're ADD or ADHD, or have been diagnosed as such, know
that you have the power to choose whether you want to be defined
as being "deficient", having a "disorder", or
being one of the new, evolved human beings. If you choose the latter,
know that your path may not be as easy as taking a drug or giving
up the responsibility for yourself. The rewards, however, will be
much greater. You'll have the inner knowing that you are whole,
healthy, complete, and are one of the forerunners of the evolution
of humans.
Which
will it be? Choose wisely.
