The
Fool
The
Tarot is more than a method for fortune telling. In its highest
form, it is the story of our spiritual journey. Tarot cards are
symbolic representations of the challenges and choices we face on
many levels as we travel on our life path.
There
are 22 Major Arcana cards in the Tarot deck. These cards are the
most important cards and they symbolize the path of the Soul. There
are three sections of the Major Arcana - physical, emotional, and
spiritual. Each section has seven cards which tell the story of
the journey of the Soul as it progresses through these levels.
So,
if my grade school math still works, three levels times seven cards
equals 21. What's the 22nd card?
The
Fool.
The
Fool card is the number 0, which represents everything and nothing,
the beginning and the end, completeness and emptiness. When a life
journey is complete, it comes back to the beginning and starts over
again - but this time on another, higher level, spiraling ever upwards.
The
Fool is typically pictured with a satchel or bag of some sort in
which he carries all the knowledge and wisdom that he's gained on
his life journey to this point.
The
Fool always travels with his trusted companion and guide, his dog.
The dog encourages the Fool to continue moving forward, travels
with him on his journey,
supporting and guiding him when it's appropriate.
Typically,
the Fool is pictured as a happy-go-lucky fellow who is about to
step unknowingly off a cliff. His head is up and he is focused on
higher aspects, not on earthly matters. He has no need of looking
at the ground because he knows that his steps are guided
as he continues forward and takes a step into the unknown.
He
is about to take a leap off into the unknown, and he has complete
faith that whatever he is about to step into, it will be a grand
and joyous adventure. It will offer him many treasures of new experiences,
learning, and higher wisdom to further him along his life path.
Are
you ready to be a Fool and take a trusting step into the unknown?
